Today was spent on reviewing last night's homework. We finished our look at congruent triangles with the last portion of Lesson 8.2 and MAthia. Don't forget, this semester's first MATHia grading period will close tonight at midnight. Make sure you've reached your goals for the first grade.
Here is this week's extra credit:
1.List the coordinates of each of the vertices of triangle JKL.
Today we studied translating, rotating, and reflecting triangles with Lesson 8.1. Be sure to finish up any class work tonight that you didn't get completed in class today.
We also passed back the Chapter 7 tests today and went over the correct solutions. If you'd like to improve your grade, you can retake the test on Wednesday at lunch. Be sure to study and become an expert.
Here's the Ohio State Marching Band illustrating a translation for you. :-)
Parents: Ask your child to explain in their own words (and identify in their class work) the terms transformation, translation, congruent, image, and pre-image.
Here's the Desmos tool we used for translations in class today: bit.ly/desmostranslations It may come in handy on your homework tonight.
Homework: Textbook pg 392-393 (all), textbook pg 394 (#1), and finish any leftover class work.
Congrats to all of you that earned awards at the ceremony today. It was great to see so many of my students recognized for outstanding academic achievement!
Here is this week's extra credit:
Week 20 Extra Credit
A triangle has vertices at A(2, 5), B(8, 5), and C(7, 7). If that triangle were reflected over the line y = 2, then over the line x = 4, what would the coordinates be of the corresponding vertices?
This concluded our introduction to transformations, and wrapped up Chapter 7.
We'll be taking our Chapter 7 test tomorrow in class. Be sure to study tonight! Your chapter summary and old homework assignments make great study guides.
We'll also be hosting a test study session tonight in The Community. We won't be offering extra credit this time around, but teachers will be standing by to answer your questions.
Homework: Textbook page 421 "Talk the Talk" (#1-2)
Here is this week's extra credit: A line with the equation y= x+4 is designated as a pre-image. An image is created by translating the original line -7 units vertically.
1. Write an equation in slope-intercept form to represent the image.
2. "Translated -7 units vertically" is one way of describing the transformation. Describe a second way that the transformation may have taken place.
We continued our work with translations today with a look at translating linear functions in Lesson 7.2.
We discovered that translating a linear function either vertically or horizontally will change the y-intercept, but will not change the slope in any way.
We spent our first day back from winter break working in MATHia. You should be just about done with island three, if you're not already. Be sure to spend some extra time, if you need it, to reach your goals.
Homework: MATHia practice (at least 30 minutes each week) Highlight Key Terms and their definitions.
